A Sit Area in Nature: Your Greatest Ally

 In Nature Connection

I want to share with you something amazing and powerful. A tool that I practice almost every day and has been a game-changer in my life.

It’s called the Sit Area

Sit Area, is basically a chosen place in nature that is easily accessible for you so that you can visit it on a daily basis. A place in a park, in your back yard or front yard if you have one, or even just outside your window if neither of those is accessible for you. The most important piece is that it is somewhere in nature that you visit daily so that you can become deeply connected and attuned to this place.

It is your sacred place in nature!  And you don’t need to spend all day at your Sit Spot to become deeply connected and attuned to it.

10 to 20 minutes per day is all that it takes.

Because the intention behind this simple exercise is that you visit this place in nature so consistently that you become deeply aware of its energy. You are using all of your senses at your Sit Spot: sight, smell, touch, taste so that this place in nature almost becomes an extension of you!

Nature is always here to support us and keep us grounded. We can rely on Nature to always be at our side. Nature is here to teach us amazing things and to also listen to our thoughts and feelings. Nature does not judge.

Having a Sacred Sit Area is the best way to stay connected to nature and to yourself by being quiet and listening. In a world full of distractions and disconnections, nature is here to connect and deeply listen.

Here are some tips on how to make your Sit Area routine into an empowering and transformational daily practice!

Tip #1

Anchor Your “Why”

I visit my Sit Spot in Cheesman Park here in Denver, CO almost every morning. Before I start my workday of coaching clients, mentoring NCC students, connecting with online students, and all the other tasks that fill my daily life for EBI.  I visit my Sit Spot every morning because I know that it will ground me for the rest of the day. It will amplify my presence and focus on others in a very powerful way so that I can impact and transform the lives of all the people that I connect with on that day. Sit Spot sets my day up for success and connection!

Tip #2

Consistency and Intensity

I shared earlier that you only need 10 to 20 minutes each day to visit your Sit Spot. But, if finding and visiting your Sit Spot is something new in your life then set the intention of just 5 minutes. Your mind can easily wrap itself around the idea of investing 5 minutes of your day to be still and connect with nature. Consistency is the foundation of making a habit like visiting your Sit Spot into a way of life for yourself.

Finally, train your mind to focus on the feeling and emotion you get from spending daily time in nature. Spending a little time in nature every day has been proven to greatly reduce stress and anxiety and amplifies the feeling of empathy and gratitude. How awesome is that?! So practice focusing on the powerful feelings you will get from connecting daily with nature. When our mind ties an event to a powerful love-based feeling then we are much more likely to stay consistent.
